We have extensive experience of recruiting lawyers into the offshore havens which includes the Caribbean jurisdictions of Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Anguilla. Although situated in the Atlantic, candidates considering a move offshore often consider opportunities in Bermuda alongside those in the Caribbean jurisdictions listed above.
We aim to advise and assist those candidates who wish to consider offshore jurisdictions as a career possibility. It is often believed (wrongly) that there is some sort of mystique to securing work in an offshore location. We are here to remove any mystique and provide helpful, practical advice relating to working offshore.
Offshore firms are just as keen to consider strong lawyers from good regional and Scottish firms as they are those lawyers currently working at major City and West End firms.
In addition to considering solicitors admitted to the Law Society of England & Wales, we find that firms in the Caribbean (Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands, Anguilla) and Bermuda are also keen to recruit English qualified barristers, particularly those currently working at some of the more prestigious barristers’ sets. They are particularly keen to consider barristers with significant experience of undertaking cases in the following areas:
- Aviation Litigation
- Banking Litigation
- Chancery Litigation
- Commercial Litigation
- Employment
- Financial Services Litigation
- Insolvency Litigation
- International Arbitration
- Property Litigation
- Shipping Litigation
- Tax Litigation
- Trusts Litigation
It is also worth noting that whilst Bermuda and the Caribbean jurisdictions have slightly different requirements in terms of admission to their respective Bars, you will be relieved to know that none of them require you to take any further examinations if you are an England & Wales qualified solicitor or barrister. We can give you more details relating to this, should you wish to pursue you interest in a move offshore.
The levels of pay across the Caribbean and Bermuda are incredibly good and in many cases will pay in excess of what you could expect to earn at a top City firm. Couple this with the levels of tax being incredibly low (Bermuda 4.75% Payroll Tax; BVI – 8% Payroll tax; Cayman Islands – Tax Free) and you can see that in addition to enjoying a high quality of life, you will also be very well remunerated.
In addition to salary information, we can also provide you with information on other aspects of island life such as costs of housing and other general information which is useful to know if you happen to be considering relocating to one of these jurisdictions.
