If you are due to become a newly qualified lawyer and you are looking to move away from the firm you trained with, then we can assist you in making the first move of your career.
It might be that your firm has informed you that they are unable to keep you on, or that they are unable to offer you a position in your preferred department or it might just be that, for whatever reason, you simply don’t wish to remain with the firm you trained with.
Making this move can seem to some, quite daunting. Furthermore considering a move to a new firm only a number of weeks or a few months before you qualify might feel strange, as it is likely that, as an aspirant lawyer, you will have applied for your training contract at least 2 years in advance of commencing it. All of a sudden you find yourself within 6 months (or less) of the end of your training contract and you are faced with the task of finding a new role with a new firm and actually making that move all in the space of a few weeks.
The key is not to panic and to carefully choose a handful of agencies to work with so that you remain in control of the process. The temptation is (and we see it every year) to register with a multitude of agencies – please resist! We understand that as time moves on, friends/ fellow lawyers begin securing work at other firms and you begin to fear that you will not land something. However, if you lose control of the process, you will find, increasingly, that multiple applications are made to the same firm or firms and this can harm rather than enhance your chances with that particular firm.
We will help you retain control.
If we come across any appropriate opportunities, we will speak to you first about the opportunity and the firm in question. You can then tell us whether would like your CV sending to that particular firm or not.
