Clients
Commercial law firms
We work with commercial firms of all sizes. These include large and medium sized commercial firms in both London and the regions. We also work with smaller commercial practices including niche/ boutique practices providing specialist industry/sector-specific legal services. We attract ‘commercial’ lawyers of every type and hue and therefore would welcome the opportunity to discuss with clients any vacancies which they might have for ‘commercial’ lawyers and provide our thoughts on the market for the particular type of lawyer being sought (see ‘Contact Us’ page)
Private Client law firms
We also recruit into Private Client law firms offering services to high net worth individuals or high value cases. Therefore we recruit for those firms that perhaps specialise in Wills, Tax & Trusts law and/or Agriculture and Estates law dealing specifically with high net worth individuals. We also recruit for Matrimonial law specialists and also firms who offer legal services to claimants involved in high value Catastrophic Injury and/or Medical/Clinical Negligence cases.
Offshore
We are always keen to speak to firms whose main operations lie in offshore jurisdictions (particularly Channel Islands, Caribbean and/or Bermuda) and assist, where possible, with any recruitment needs which they may have. At any given point in time we always have a certain percentage of candidates who are keen to make the move offshore. Depending on their preferred geographical location, we would talk to them about opportunities which exist in either the Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey) and/or the Caribbean (Cayman Islands, British Virgin Islands and Anguilla)/ Bermuda whilst recognising that they need to possess the requisite PQE to be considered for Caribbean islands/ Bermuda. If candidates show a serious interest in making the move offshore we try to give them as much basic information and advice as possible so that they can make an informed decision as to whether this is the right move for them or not. Such information would include (amongst other things):
- any restrictions which may exist on purchasing property;
- costs of renting/ buying housing
- rights to work and right to reside for spouses on a given island and further to this, whether being married is going to be an important factor or not, etc.
In-house
We act on instructions from companies in commerce/industry looking for in-house lawyers to join their team. Typically these are likely to be lawyers with either a Corporate/ Commercial background or Employment lawyers, but firms may require other types of lawyer with industry-specific experience which is also appropriate to the type of company looking to recruit eg. Banks may wish to recruit lawyers to work in-house who have specific Banking law experience; Energy sector companies may require lawyers with specific Oil and Gas/ Energy law experience, etc.
Whatever the requirements of the firm in question we will try to assist you in sourcing the right candidate or candidates. We may already have appropriate live candidates on our database, but we would also look to attract further candidates through the various means we have at our disposal. We would also happily discuss the options of client-paid advertising in the various legal journals and indeed, we would be more than happy to assist with any client-paid advertising which you wished to embark upon.
Candidates
Our main aim with candidates is to ensure that you have trust and confidence in what we’re doing on your behalf. That’s why if you’re unsure about whether to take the plunge into the job market we would always encourage you to pick up the phone and talk to us, in the first instance. We don’t need your CV to do this and it’s up to you whether you wish to send your CV to us, subsequent to our conversation.
The advice we impart is free and we can give you a snapshot of what the market’s like for your specific legal skills in your preferred geographical area, as well as answering any questions which you may have about your current situation/ proposed move. Conversely, you may have definitely decided that you wish to leave your current role and have sent your CV to us anyway and that’s also fine.
Once a candidate has sent us their CV, we believe that they look for 3 basic things from us when they have registered us:
- firstly, and crucially, that their confidentiality is not compromised
- secondly, that they retain control of the process and thereby decide where their CV is and isn’t sent
- thirdly, that they are presented with a variety of options of where to send their CV (which are in keeping with their original brief) and from any subsequent submissions, this results in at least one or two ‘requests for interview’
In essence we recruit both qualified solicitors and barristers. We recruit lawyers across all ‘commercial’ disciplines and across some (but not all) ‘private client’ disciplines.
We recruit solicitors from newly qualified to equity partner and every level in between. We also recruit barristers of any level who may have become disillusioned with life at the Bar and looking to move into a private practice law firm. Many barristers make this move and either continue as an in-house advocate at the law firm or become non-practising and operate more akin to a solicitor. Many barristers who move into private practice to become non-practising barristers eventually undertake the QLTT to become admitted to the Law Society of England & Wales (though this is by no means a pre-requisite to move over to a private practice law firm).
We also recruit lawyers currently working in-house, looking to move back into private practice and vice-versa.
